tips for the interviewee
For various reasons, for many people, the thought of an interview can be harrowing. One of the main points to remember is the interview process not only gives the chance for the employer to ‘check the candidate out’ but for you to ‘check the employer out’ and this should help you to relax.
Please see below listed interview tips that may help you in the future - inevitably most are just common sense!
- Research into the company before your interview is essential
- Looking professional, clean and smart goes without saying! Jewellery and perfume/aftershave should be understated
- Allow yourself plenty of time to reach the company premises
- Always smile and be polite and professional to any company employees you meet - the word could soon get to your interviewer if you are rude
- Always greet your interviewer with a firm handshake and keep good positive eye contact throughout the interview
- Ask if you can take notes as the interview takes place as if you are nervous there are bound to be things that will slip your mind - this will also show you are organised and will keep you focused
- If you have experienced differences with your current or previous employer, do not talk badly of them or dwell on it
- Encourage the interviewer to tell you about their company and share any relevant information that could assist you if you are called back for a second interview
